Environmental Studies Program

University of Wisconsin Oshkosh
In 1992, with the encouragement of Dean Michael Zimmerman, Taylor invited University of Wisconsin Oshkosh faculty to discuss the possibility of creating an Environmental Studies program. After receiving significant interest and writing grants to draw faculty together, these faculty collaboratively developed first a minor (with classes beginning in 1995) and a major, which was formally approved in 2002 by the University of Wisconsin regents.
When Taylor left UWO for the University of Florida in 2002, there were about three dozen students in the ES program. By 2010, Environmental Studies at UWO had grown to over 100 students under the leadership of the subsequent director, David Barnhill.
